In 1989 the Soviet government offered an opportunity to U.S. Citizens-a chanceto view contemporary Soviet life through the loan of 75 posters. They weredisplayed at the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art and dealt with politicalthemes, social issues and the arts in the period between Perestroika toGlasnost. The original show was organized by members of AIGA San Diego chapter and supported by a grant from the NationalEndowment of the Arts. The show went on to other U.S. locations as part of atraveling exhibition sponsored by the American Institute of Graphic Arts.

Dialogues: Poster Art of the Soviet Union wascreated and organized by the faculty and students of the San Diego City Collegegraphic design program. Thanks to Ron Miriello, the owner of the postercollection for sharing these treasures with our community. Soviet historicalposters are featured alongside new works created by contemporary artists, designers and illustrators for Dialogues. Like their historical counterpartsthe contemporary works feature political, social and arts themes but include avisual or conceptual reference to Soviet culture. This show will be free and open to the public at the stunning new City Gallery and will run from March 13-April 13, 2015.
